Experts forum FuTuristica: Pressures and impacts of tourism on nature, society and infrastructure
On Tuesday 28 November 2017 the Faculty of Tourism Studies – Turistica held the experts forum FuTuristica with the topic Pressures and impacts of tourism on nature, society and infrastructure. The goal of the forum was to present experiences and empirical facts regarding the actual impacts and pressures of tourism on Slovenian society and natural environment. Representatives of seven organisations and enterprises from tourism and related industries presented their views and experiences of the tourism related negative impacts. The forum was enriched with video conference participation of experts from Iceland and the Kingdom of Thailand, the two destinations experiencing above average growth in tourism arrivals. The two experts talked about their experiences of tourism related pressures and negative impacts.
The key findings of the forum are that Slovenia’s tourism carrying capacity is far from being reached and that the growth of tourist visits does not represent an unmanageable threat to society and nature. However, in line with sustainable tourism development, more detailed and accurate data is needed about how tourism affects the quality of life in Slovenia.
The participants will meet again in spring 2018 and present to the tourism industry specific guidelines for the reduction of the negative impacts of tourism on the natural and social environment.
